The BRC has confirmed that they will target West Australian-trained Group 1 winner Scales Of Justice to make an appearance in the 2017 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), during the next edition of the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
Scales Of Justice has been a strong and consistent performer for trainer Lindsey Smith throughout his entire racing career so far, but was undoubtedly at his best to date when he stormed home to win the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot Racecourse last time out on November 19th.
Racing Manager for the Brisbane Racing Club, Bart Sinclair told AAP that the committee will make Scales Of Justice a priority when they begin the process of luring interstate and international raiders to Queensland for the 2017 Stradbroke Handicap, and Brisbane Winter Carnival.
“Bill (Andrews, part-owner of Scales Of Justice) is away on holiday in the bush and not in mobile phone range. But we will make it a priority to contact him after the Kingston Town Classic about getting Scales of Justice here,” Sinclair said.
“The Stradbroke has always been a race for horses who can run a strong 1600 metres and Scales of Justice fills that need.”
Scales Of Justice only made his competitive debut midway through the 2015 racing calendar, but has already posted seven wins and a further six minors through thirteen starts, on his way towards close to $1 million in prize money.
Resuming in May for third in the Town Of Victoria Park BM64+ (1300m), the Not A Single Doubt gelding was returned to the paddock after posting consecutive wins in the Pink Ladies Day Luncheon BM64+ (1400m) and Young Membership BM72+ (1400m).
Resuming in October for second in the Monster Storage BM72+ (1200m), Scales Of Justice again placed second in the Muscular Dystrophy WA BM72+ (1400m) before winning each of the Champion Fillies Day 12/11 BM72+ (1600m) and Group 3 RJ Peters Stakes (1500m), leading into his Railway Stakes triumph.
