Ryan Hopeful of 2015 Stradbroke Handicap Berth for War

June 2nd, 2015

Gerald Ryan has re-gained the training rights of talented three-year-old Time For War and is hopeful the colt will gain a start in Saturday’s featured Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben after being set in position 31 in the order of entry.

A stakes winner for Ryan as a two-year-old in 2015, Time For War was transferred to the care of Stuart Kendrick following a short spring preparation but has returned to the stables of Ryan after being purchased by stud interests last week.

Thrilled have had the Snitzel colt return to his Rosehill base, Ryan confirmed the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) will figure for Time For War should he not make the 2015 Stradbroke Handicap final field, but is confident the conditions of the feature race will play into his strengths should he indeed be accepted.

“He was sold and the new owners asked me if I would take him back,” Ryan told AAP.

“He has been bought as a future stallion prospect at Kitchwin Hills.

“I think with the Stradbroke being over 1350 metres at Doomben this year it would be ideal for him.

“But we need a few more horses to come out to work our way up the order of entry.

Posting three wins and as many minors through his 12 career starts so far, Time For War undoubtedly found career-best form to date over the 2014 Autumn and Winter Carnivals; taking out the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) most notably, as well as a credible performance for fourth in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

Returning in spring for fifth in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m), Time For War placed a close second to Kuro in the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m) but failed to make anything of an impact when fourteenth down the straight in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).

Performing well upon debuting for Kendrick this time, Time For War ran second in each of the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) and Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1300m) before again failing to fire when 13th in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m).

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best early 2015 Stradbroke Handicap odds, for which Time For War can be taken at a particularly generous quote of $67 for success.
