A particularly talented field of 18 plus five emergencies has been confirmed for this weekend’s featured Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm, offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Aiming for an impressive sixth-consecutive victory in the Stradbroke Handicap, Srikandi has opened as and maintained favouritism in betting markets for success, currently offered at a quote of $5, ahead of Hucklebuck ($5.50), Spirit Of Boom ($7.50) and Rebel Dane ($8.50).
Will Srikandi break-through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing, or will one of her talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Red Tracer ($11)
Arguably offering punters the best value for success at current $11 odds in Stradbroke Handicap betting markets, all signs seem to point towards another impressive Red Tracer victory this weekend. A notable performer in events throughout the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, the Dane Shadow mare strolled home to win the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) before repeating the dose two weeks later in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) in 2013. Having returned to the track in typically strong form this year, Red Tracer returns to her pet distance of 1400 and will be partnered by leading jockey Nash Rawiller in the Stradbroke Handicap.
Temple Of Boom ($21)
Charged with carrying just 56kgs in the 2014 Stradbroke Handicap, well-trialled gelding Temple Of Boom has returned to Brisbane in peak condition this season and is more than worth a wager at current $21 for success, or $5.50 to run a place. Finishing mid-pack in three major races throughout the 2014 Sydney Autumn Carnival, the Piccolo gelding produced an excellent turn of foot to win the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on April 26th and has continued to build in form via a strong fourth in the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) and second in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) last time out. While allocated barrier 18, trainer Tony Gollan is confident jockey Tegan Harrison will find good cover early ahead of a strong final straight sprint.
Add a bit of value to a 2014 Stradbroke Handicap trifecta by including consistent performer Knoydart, who has undoubtedly returned to racing in career best form this time in. Claiming three consecutive victories first-up this season, the More Than Ready gelding finishing third behind the world’s leading sprinter Lankan Rupee in both the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) before finishing second to talented sprinter Hot Snitzel in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) on April 26th. Producing a final straight sprint to run on for fifth in the Doomben 10,000 last time out, Knoydart will be partnered by talented jockey Kerrin McEvoy and is in line for a memorable performance at Eagle Farm this weekend.
