Hana’s Goal a Possibility for 2014 Stradbroke Handicap Appearance

May 6th, 2014

Talented Japanese raider Hana’s Goal is an outside chance of figuring in the field for the 2014 Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 7th after breaking through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing when comfortably winning the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) last time out.

Needing to be back in her native Japan by the conclusion of July, Racing Manager of the Brisbane Racing Club Bart Sinclair told the Gold Coast Bulletin he had made contact with Hana’s Goal’s travelling team and was continuing to press for an appearance north of the border.

“She has to be back there by the end of July and that is doable” Sinclair said.

“There is dialogue ongoing and (Hana’s Goal) would qualify for a travel subsidy.

“International horses are offered $25,000 towards travel and general expenses but they have to run in the Stradbroke.

“We are trying desperately and they are considering it.

“I would say the odds are against us but we are in the ring throwing punches.”

Claiming an impressive total of six race wins and two places from only 22 competitive appearances to date, Hana’s Goal has been a mainstay in major Japanese events since debuting in October 2011; finishing sixth in the 2013 edition of the major Group 1 Victoria Mile (1609m) most notably.

Underling the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) as the major target for the Orewa Matteruze mare in her maiden Australian tenure this season, trainer Kazuhiro Kato was forced to re-think plans when finishing a disappointing 14th in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) first-up before placing more than five lengths off the pace when sixth in the Doncaster.

Overcoming poor running position when producing a keen turn of foot to claim the All Aged Stakes by more than two lengths last time out, Hana’s Goal was widely tipped to immediately return to Japan, but is now a distinct possibility for the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, having been offered the standard $25,000 allowance offered to international contestants.
