Also likely to appear in nominations for the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 two weeks’ prior, Coyle told TVN he is pleased with the form of the Excites gelding and believes Queensland offers the ideal location for a first-up competitive appearance this year.

“He pretty much did what we wanted him to do today, he can still do a few things wrong in his trials when they go a moderate tempo, he had a little blow after the trial so we are happy,” Coyle said following Monday’s trial.

“Saturday week there is a benchmark 95 over 1350m there for him and that will decide whether venture north at any stage.

“He will be nominated for the Doomben 10,000 and the Stradbroke, I think they come up next week so he will be in the mix for at least the Stradbroke and make a decision based on his first-up effort.

“That gives us three weeks if we decide to try and squeeze a run in to the Stradbroke, it would be three weeks between runs over 1400m, which I am probably thinking he won’t go much further than that.”

Having claimed the majority of his success over longer events historically, Coyle said he believes the sharp tempo of shorter races look to suit Scream Machine’s style leading into the future.

“He has run so well fresh in the past, we might try and target more that style of racing at this stage and target longer races a little later,” Coyle added.

“We always fall in to a bit of trap thinking he might want further but he can do things wrong at longer trips because of the slower tempo.”

Amassing an impressive total of five wins and eight places from only 29 competitive starts to date, Scream Machine is a proven contender over autumn/winter races; finishing in competitive position in both the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1600m) and Listed Japan Racing Association Plate (2000m) prior to his Wagga Cup triumph in 2013. is currently offering the best odds on the 2014 Stradbroke Handicap!
