Belltone will be out to win this year’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm Racecourse on Saturday June 8, 2013.
The seven-year-old won his last start in the Group 3 BRC Sprint by a length and trainer Kelso Wood is confident that the gelding can go on to win the winter’s biggest race.
Belltone has won nine of his 29 race starts in total and has earned more than $497,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.
“He would have won the Stradbroke last year if we had have got in it,” Wood said.
“He is a marvellous old horse and we will certainly go to the Stradbroke.”
Jockey Chris Munce has always leant towards stable mate Sizzling as his preferred 2013 Stradbroke Handicap mount, however, is now considering jumping aboard Belltone thanks to his recent success.
Munce said he would let Kelso decide which jockey would ride each horse in the days prior to the race.
“We will leave that up to Kelso, we will worry about that when the time comes,” Munce said.
“Belltone was a boom horse last year, and I wouldn’t say he is going any worse this year. He has probably improved that little bit more.
“With the Stradbroke you certainly wouldn’t rule him out – he is certainly not going to be the worst in that race.
“He is a very fit horse, he’s a real tradesman and he loves to win.”
