Temple Of Boom Targets 2012 Stradbroke Handicap

May 1st, 2012

Temple Of Boom’s trainer Tony Gollan has declined an offer to race at Royal Ascot next month in favour of targeting the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap on June 9, 2012.

Gollan will aim the last start winner of the Group 1 The Galaxy at the Group 1 Doomben 10,000, before giving him a Stradbroke Handicap start on the biggest day of the Brisbane Carnival.

The trainer initially was unsure whether to travel half way round the world to run in the Grade One King’s Stand Stakes.

“If we go over he won’t be running against Black Caviar – no way,” Gollan said last week.

“I got a phone call from Jack Petley who represents the club over here and they’d like him to run in the King’s Stand Stakes.

“It’s the second time we’ve been approached to go over. I was first asked about it in January.

“Black Caviar is running in the Golden Jubilee so if we do head over we won’t be meeting her.

“I’m 50-50 about it. It’s a big trip and he’s a five-year-old but I still haven’t got to the bottom of him yet.”

Gollan has since made the decision to keep the horse in Australia for the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

“At this stage we’re staying here,” Gollan said.

“We’re going to tackle the three Group Ones here rather than the one.”

The trainer said it was a hard decision to make and was one he did not take lightly.

“Of course it was. Any of these offers you take seriously,” he said.
