2011 Stradbroke Handicap Form Guide

#1 – Black Piranha (Barrier – 3) (57kgs)

  • Trainer: Con Karakatsanis
  • Jockey: Hugh Bowman
  • Career Stats: 55s – 8w – 17p
  • Last Start: 3rd at Doomben

Shooting for his third Stradbroke in a row the seven year old isn’t slowing up yet and looks a big hope. Improved in both runs this year, this is his target, look for him late.

#2 – All Silent (Barrier – 8) (56kgs)

  • Trainer: Grahame Begg
  • Jockey: Nash Rawiller
  • Career Stats: 27s – 8w – 2p
  • Last Start: 6th at Doomben

Not just racing for the win, probably racing for his career. Begg says it’s now or never for the seven year old, no excuses with Rawiller aboard.

#3 – Snipers Bullet (Barrier – 22) (56kgs)

  • Trainer: Tracey Bartley
  • Jockey: Michael Rodd
  • Career Stats: 46s – 8w – 17p
  • Last Start: 5th at Doomben

Gallant veteran won this race in 2007 but is a long way from that form today. This is his favourite distance but from 22 he just doesn’t have the same turn of foot as he once did.

#4 – Love Conquers All (Barrier – 16) (54.5kgs)

  • Trainer: M, W & J Hawkes
  • Jockey: Chris Munce
  • Career Stats: 17s – 6w – 6p
  • Last Start: 2nd at Doomben

Agonisingly close last start in the 10,000 and in fact he has run second in his last three. Due for a Group1 and this could certainly be it, weighted well, top form, big player.

Bet on Love Conquers All now at Luxbet

#5 – Beaded (Barrier – 17) (54kgs)

  • Trainer: Peter Snowden
  • Jockey: Kerrin McEvoy
  • Career Stats: 20s – 10w – 9p
  • Last Start: 1st at Doomben

The stats are simply superb and why wouldn’t she be the favourite after the 10,000 win. History is against her though, no mare has won this race since the 1930’s.

Bet on Beaded now at Luxbet

#6 – Border Rebel (Barrier – 9) (53.5kgs)

  • Trainer: Sue Grills
  • Jockey: Timothy Bell
  • Career Stats: 23s – 13w – 4p
  • Last Start: 4th at Doomben

He’ll be there abouts but doubtful he has the talent to go all the way. 4th in the 10,000 but 3 lengths back, exotic inclusion at best.

Bet on Border Rebel now at Luxbet

#7 – Alverta (Barrier – 23) (53kgs)

  • Trainer: Paul Messara
  • Jockey: Glen Colless
  • Career Stats: 41s – 8w – 13p
  • Last Start: 5th at Doomben

Disappointed punters last start when fifth at Doomben and this is a big jump up. On her day she’s extremely dangerous but at seven her time may have passed.

Bet on Alverta now at Luxbet

#8 – Bold Glance (Barrier – 21) (53kgs)

  • Trainer: Norm Hilton
  • Jockey: Scott Seamer
  • Career Stats: 29s – 8w – 10p
  • Last Start: 10th at Doomben

Poor horse just can’t draw a gate and it’s unfortunate given the talent he has. Surprised many to place in the Doncaster, would be a similar story if he got up here.

Bet on Bold Glance now at Luxbet

#9 – Rightfully Yours (Barrier – 15) (53kgs)

  • Trainer: Mick Price
  • Jockey: Jim Byrne
  • Career Stats: 28s – 10w – 4p
  • Last Start: 13th at Gold Coast

Any horse coming into this race off a 13th placed finish last start can’t be considered. Just too much in form talent throughout the field.

Bet on Rightfully Yours now at Luxbet

#10 – Woorim (Barrier – 18) (53kgs)

  • Trainer: Robert Heathcote
  • Jockey: Corey Brown
  • Career Stats: 28s – 7w – 9p
  • Last Start: 1st at Doomben

Incredible run late to win the BRC Sprint and well and truly one of the main hopes. Barrier 18 is a little bit wide and he’ll be a long way back but his turn of foot is remarkable.

Bet on Woorim now at Luxbet

#11 – Raffaello (Barrier – 5) (52.5kgs)

  • Trainer: Patrick Ryan
  • Jockey: Lisa Cropp
  • Career Stats: 44s – 9w – 8p
  • Last Start: 13th at Caulfield.

First up for the year which is interesting but it’d want to have been one hell of a spell to have him up to Group1 level. Ran second in last year’s Eagle Farm Cup, this trek too short.

Bet on Raffaello now at Luxbet

#12 – Thankgodyou’rehere (Barrier – 11) (52.5kgs)

  • Trainer: P & W Webster
  • Jockey: Rod Quinn
  • Career Stats: 14s – 7w – 5p
  • Last Start: 3rd at Doomben

Hasn’t been far away since jumping up in grade in 2011 and there’s a quiet feeling this could be his day. He’s fresh, he’s in form and he’s drawn ok, he’ll run close.

Bet on Thankgodyou’rehere now at Luxbet

#13 – Buffering (Barrier – 10) (52kgs)

  • Trainer: Robert Heathcote
  • Jockey: Glyn Schofield
  • Career Stats: 14s – 7w – 5p
  • Last Start: 7th at Doomben

You just can’t have him after he bombed out of the 10,000 even if there were a couple of excuses. Fact is he was 10 lengths away and maybe starting to feel the pinch.

Bet on Buffering now at Luxbet

#14 – Culminate (Barrier – 12) (52kgs)

  • Trainer: Darren Weir
  • Jockey: Michael Walker
  • Career Stats: 44s – 12w – 14p
  • Last Start: 4th at Eagle Farm

Improved in the Dane Ripper but that’s nothing on the field she meets on Saturday. Loves the distance but she needs rain and lots of it to be any hope at all.

Bet on Culminate now at Luxbet

#15 – Listen Son (Barrier – 1) (52kgs)

  • Trainer: Tony Gollan
  • Jockey: Ryan Wiggins
  • Career Stats: 26s – 7w – 8p
  • Last Start: 4th at Eagle Farm

Don’t write off this horse, he’ll be great value and from barrier one he’ll set the early tempo. Whoever wins will have to run past this horse first and he won’t give it up easily.

Bet on Listen Son now at Luxbet

#16 – Star Of Octagonal (Barrier – 6) (52kgs)

  • Trainer: Todd Howlett
  • Jockey: Eddie Wilkinson
  • Career Stats: 12s – 3w – 4p
  • Last Start: 3rd at Randwick

Ran 15th in the Scone Cup so to win a Stradbroke would be the miracle of all miracles. Won’t be in my numbers and won’t be in many other people’s either.

Bet on Star Of Octagonal now at Luxbet

#17 – Zero Rock (Barrier – 14) (52kgs)

  • Trainer: Kelso Wood
  • Jockey: Tim Clark
  • Career Stats: 23s – 10w – 7p
  • Last Start: 2nd at Eagle Farm

Very consistent horse and another which will look to set the early tempo. It could be hard for the back markers to get around these horses, this is another that will battle on for sure.

Bet on Zero Rock now at Luxbet

#18 – Sincero (Barrier – 4) (50.5kgs)

  • Trainer: Stephen Farley
  • Jockey: Jason Taylor
  • Career Stats: 12s – 8w – 1p
  • Last Start: 11th at Eagle Farm

Early Stradbroke favourite but bombed in the QTC Cup. Many thought he wouldn’t back up but he is in the field. Couldn’t handle the jump in class last week, it’s another jump here.

Bet on Sincero now at Luxbet
