2011 Stradbroke Handicap Final Field

The 2011 Stradbroke Handicap final field has certainly delivered with punters offered a host of good value runners right across the board.

It’s well and truly worthy of a Group 1 rating with talent filling all 18 spots with five emergencies as well.

The barrier draw earlier today was certainly very crucial and the chances of a few horses have been both greatly hindered and some greatly helped.

Black Piranha is shooting for an unprecedented third straight Stradbroke Handicap and connections are very confident he can deliver.

Punters have a similar feeling and after he came up with barrier three they think Hugh Bowman will be able to position him perfectly and run home the best of them.

He’s now challenging the favouritism of Beaded with online bookmaker Luxbet and in the last 24 hours he’s been close to the best backed runner in the field.

Beaded is still steady though and after her last start win in the Doomben 10,000 it’s not surprising the consistent little mare is still at the top of the board.

Love Conquers All came extremely close in the 10,000 though and he’s the next in line with Luxbet.

In his last four runs he’s run second and it’s a position he’s now well and truly familiar with at Group 1 level.

Plenty of people think he can go one better in the Stradbroke although barrier 16 hasn’t aided his causes.

One horse the barrier draw did help is Listen Son.

The on pace runner is easily the best placed to take up the early lead with the other challenges Border Rebel and Buffering out in gates nine and ten respectively.

Another horse worth keeping in mind is Woorim for Robert Heathcote.

He put in one of the runs of the carnival to win the BRC Sprint and if he can find the same sort fo pace it’s unlikely any can match him.

Unfortunately gate 18 will mean he’ll be back near enough to last early on leaving him with plenty of ground to make up in the home straight.

The other main chances are Thankgodyou’rehere and of course the early favourite Sincero.

Both of these horses had tremendous records in the lower grades but only now are they moving up into the big leagues.

Thankgodyou’rehere has more experience around this company and has performed quite well and he hasn’t finished lower than fourth since making the jump.

For Sincero the big test came last week and unfortunately he couldn’t hack it running home 11th in the QTC Cup.

In his favour though is the light weight and form barrier four he’ll have a little bit of room to move when they jump.

Other horses worth noting back in the pack a Bold Glance, the Doncaster Mile third place getter, as well as the old school veterans All Silent and Snipers Bullet.
