Stradbroke Handicap News

In yet another close Group 1 finish for Rob Heathcote’s always honest Queensland galloper Buffering the five-year-old had to be happy playing the bridesmaid once again in the Stradbroke Handicap 2013 after being run down by the fast finishing grey Linton. It was an absolute stellar effort to win this…

Stradbroke Handicap

The 2014 Stradbroke Handicap is the richest and most celebrated race of the annual Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival. Taking place in June at Eagle Farm racecourse on Stradbroke Handicap Day, the Stradbroke Handicap draws a top quality field of local horses, as well as some elite contenders from the country’s southern states. In 1996 the prize money was raised to $1 million, launching the Stradbroke Handicap into the nation’s elite status of stakes races.

The 2014 Stradbroke Handicap will take place on Saturday June 7th.

Raced over a distance of 1,400 metres, this open handicap race has been known to produce some of the nation’s champion sprinters, who later succeed in other group races including those in the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival. This is another reason why so many spectators and racing enthusiasts pay close attention to the Stradbroke Handicap, as it is considered a key indication for the nation’s other chief racing carnivals. The high stakes and impressive field of entries mean the Stradbroke Handicap is also an excellent opportunity for punters, offering the biggest betting prize pool and best odds of any of the Brisbane Winter Carnival races.

Other races held on Stradbroke Handicap Day include the Group 1 TJ Smith (1600m) and Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m), and two Group 2 races, the Brisbane Cup (2400m) and Queensland Guineas (1600m). With so many superior group status races taking place, this is the busiest and most exhilarating day of racing on the Queensland racing calendar; punters can be sure to find some great value as well!
